We all complain about the cold winters so the good news is that summer is coming. The bad news is that you have to put on layers of fire-retardant garments, a helmet, and then strap into a car without air conditioning in the same hot weather. COOLSHIRT Systems has a product to help you stay comfortable and concentrate on racing instead of worrying about sweat stains from your armpits. The concept is a simple one, a vest goes under your fire jacket and it is lined with insulated tubing that circulates ice water from a reservoir.
The Drag Pack System comes with the aforementioned vest, 8-feet of insulated tubing that connects to a small ice bag to deliver and return the ice water, and a lithium batter pack that is good for 7 hours of use. The vest covers up to 40% of the driver’s body and helps keep their core cooler in order to reduce fatigue.
We sat down with NMCA racer Ricky Pennington, who won two NMCA championships last year, to get some insight into the COOLSHIRT System. This year the pressure is on as he will be driving three cars in NMCA competition as he defends his titles in MagnaFuel Open Comp and Coan Engineering Stock/Super Stock as well as jumping into the heads-up ranks with a new Chevrolet Performance Stock entry.
