21st Annual NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Sick the Magazine — Sunday Coverage

We have reached the final day of this year's running of the 21st Annual NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Sick the Magazine at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, and we are ready for all of the astonishing action that we have on tap. Racers began preparing their cars for competition at the crack of dawn, and many are focused on moving up in points in their category, or coming closer to a season championship, as there is only one more race after this one, the 21st Annual NMCA World Street Finals presented by Chevrolet Performance, Sept. 22-25 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in Indiana. Thank you to everyone who has joined us for this great event this weekend.

EFI Rumble will be the first category called to the lanes this morning, and drivers have a perfectly prepared track surface waiting for them. 

Regina Puckett was holding onto first-place in Proform Rumble points coming into the NMCA All-American Nationals this weekend at Summit Motorsports Park, and it looks like she may just hold onto the points lead going into the final event of the season, the 21st Annual NMCA World Street Finals presented by Chevrolet Performance, Sept. 22-25 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Puckett, of Florida, qualified in the fourth spot with an 11.84 on an 11.75 index, and won the first round of eliminations with an 11.77 after Alan Kasper went -.004 red. She has adjusted her tune-up with her Holley EFI several times this weekend to help her car run as close to her index as possible, and she said she will add a bit of timing for her LS3 engine and change her shift points going into the second round of eliminations today.

TorqStorm Superchargers True Street is always something to see, and the many racers taking part in the category at the NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Sick the Magazine this weekend at Summit Motorsports Park made it memorable not only for themselves, but also for the many fans watching them. Dan Sharp secured the win with a nice 8.33 average in his Chevy II, and Allen Hurley arrived at the runner-up finish with an 8.53 average in his Fairlane. Scott Oshinski of TorqStorm Superchargers was the 9-second winner in his cool Cutlass, Norm Jensen was the 10-second winner in his Camaro and Jason Bean belted in for the 11-second win in his Camaro. Other successful drivers were Steve Hansen, the 12-second winner, Mark Storts, the 13-second winner, Adam Retford, the 14-second winner and Tony Nguyen, the 15-second winner.

We caught up with Tom Bailey, founder of Sick The Mag, while hanging out with a handful of friends and Sick Week competitors at the STM trailer. Sick The Mag is the presenting sponsor of the 21st Annual NMCA All-American Nationals held at Summit Motorsports Park. The Sick crew had great deals on magazine subscriptions and merch, and Bailey was on hand to answer questions about his record-breaking Camaro and the Sick Week events.

As is seen in this staging-lanes photo, NMCA is your home for the very best American Muscle Cars. Whether it’s on track or in the NMCA Car and Truck Show and Shine, you’ll find your favorite makes and models with a wide array of trim and engine packages. In fact, the 21st Annual All-American Nationals presented by Sick The Magazine features FSC Stock, FSC Super Stock, Quick Fuel Nostalgia Super Stock, Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle Car and FAST to name a few. This photo shows a representation of Ford, Mopar and Chevrolet, but you’ll all see AMC, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and more race and show cars at every event. 

NMRA Limited Street regular Del Holbrook (right) came out to the NMCA 21st Annual All-American Nationals presented by Sick The Mag to refine his skills behind the wheel of his stunning Coyote-powered S550 Mustang. Working with his legendary father, Chris, the young Holbrook is seen here making final checks before eliminations. Del is competing in Magna Fuel Open Comp and the Watson Racing Cobra Jet Showdown.

In addition to championship drag racing and a massive manufacturer’s midway, every Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Natiionals event features the NMCA Car and Truck Show and Shine. Entering the car show is easy, and a fun way to attend any NMCA event with friends and family. Class winners are crowned both Saturday and Sunday with over 50 prizes given away each day. And just like on the race track, you can expect to get up close and personal with a hot rods, muscle cars, specialty vehicles, and more.

Challengers, Chargers, Demons, Durangos and other eye-catching Gen III HEMI-powered cars pulled in for the Dodge // Mopar HEMI Shootout. Joshua Schwartz wrapped up the win with an 8.92 average in his Challenger Hellcat, while Tony Demaio was the runner-up with a 9.10 in his Challenger Hellcat. Jess Richards raced to the 9-second win in a Redeye, Mike England motored to the 10-second win in a Charger Hellcat, Trevor Hilbert hooked up for the 11-second win in his Charger Super Bee and Robert Skalecki secured the 12-second win in his Challenger Scat Pak. Rounding out the category were Kim Schwarz, the 13-second winner in a Challenger, Casey Fitzgerald, the 14-second winner in a Charger Daytona R/T and Jake Corbin, the 15-second winner in a Dodge Ram.

Edelbrock Extreme Street is a hotly contested NMCA category with a variety of cars and powertrain combinations. This is Uniontown, Pennsylvania’s Bob Zelenak who competes in his 1993 Mustang LX that’s powered by a 351 Windsor/nitrous combination. Zelenak and his father prepare the car, which includes building the Ford small-block engine. Bob Z produced a 4.647 at 149.10 mph during qualifying and that was good enough for the 4th spot in the 16-car field.

Not only are the FAST (Factory Appearing Stock Tire) and Pure Stock machines quick on the quarter-mile, they are some of the cleanest factory muscle cars powered by some of the most fierce engine ever to come from the Detroit. This is Mike Marple’s legit A12 1969 ½ Road Runner with the 440 Six Barrel V8. It colored in R4 Red, sports an automatic and consistently runs low 12s at 112 mph.
