Brad Medlock To Tackle Pro 275 Class With New Corvette

Posted By: Steve Baur
Heads-up racer Brad Medlock has been campaigning his 1990 Mustang in X275 competition lately, with crew chief Barry Phillippi maintaining the Justin McChesney-tuned, DiSomma Racing Engines-powered machine as they compete at various events with the Mustang. Now, Medlock will embark on a new class and new car with a Pro 275 Chevy Corvette.

The impetus for the new build and switch up of classes is rather quite simple.

“Fletcher [Cox] talked me into it,” Medlock said. “The class is growing a lot, and some of us have boats and hang out together, and we can all go racing together.”

Medlock’s new C7 Corvette-bodied machine was built by Reese Brothers Race Cars and features a DiSomma Racing Engines-built 4.9-inch-bore-space HEMI engine and ProCharger was selected as the power adder of choice. The alcohol-fueled machine’s FuelTech EFI is tuned by Pro Line Racing’s Chase Driskell.

“Chase Driscol will be handling the tuning,” Medlock told us. “He’s worked with David [Reese] on some builds and has tuned some No Prep cars. He’s been winning a lot and I’ve known him a long time, too.”

Sitting behind the formidable Hemi engine will be a Liberty’s Gears five-speed with a Quick Drive. The transmission choice originally had a weight break in the rules, and though it was unfortunate that the break was taken away during the build, Medlock doesn’t feel it will impact them that much.

Medlock has a test session with the new car under his belt now, and is feeling positive about the car’s performance. His first outing will be at the Bama Outlaws race at Alabama International Dragway in September, followed by No Mercy at South Georgia Motorsports Park and the US Street Nationals in Bradenton, Florida.

“I’m looking forward to getting out and hanging out with the guys, says the Little Rock, Arkansas-based general contractor. Medlock will also continue to race the Mustang in X275 competition between Pro 275 events as well.
