Muscle Cars and Mileage Make Up HOT ROD Drag Week presented by Gear Vendors

Story and photos by Mary Lendzion

Hundreds of street-driven drag cars converged for the first day of the HOT ROD Drag Week presented by Gear Vendors on Sept. 13 at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan

They gave fans a glimpse of what to expect during this year's five-day, 1,000-mile tour, before heading to the next stop, Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, on Sept. 14. Temperatures were nearing 90 degrees, but participants kept on pushing, with some making the required one pass while others belted in for more on the well-prepped track.

As the afternoon wound down, participants began motoring out to make the trip toward Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana, where they will be on Sept. 15, followed by Byron Dragway in Illinois on Sept, 16 and ultimately, back to U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan on Sept. 17.

Here's a sampling of cars we spent time checking out at the Summit Motorsports Park stop on Sept. 14.
