The 2018 racing season is officially underway with booming events getting started from sunny Florida to the desert nations of Qatar and Bahrain. As the US Street Nationals kicks off at Bradenton Motorsports Park this weekend, Mark Micke sent a huge message to the Radial vs. The World crowd as he reset the all-time speed record with a 213.92 mph run during testing while driving Jason Carter’s world famous 1979 Chevy Malibu. The run also marked a career-best elapsed time for Micke who traversed the Bradenton Motorsports Park eight-mile course in just 3.726 seconds.
Micke and Carter recently added a new billet big-block Chevy engine to the crowd-favorite Malibu as it features a traditional 4.84-inch bore space configuration. The engine gets plenty of airflow from a set of Garrett GTX55 Gen 2 turbochargers while a FuelTech FT600 engine management system is used to tune the 4,000-plus horsepower beast. Micke of course relies on a TH400 two-speed transmission that was designed and built by his M&M Transmission shop as it features a lock-up torque converter configuration that no doubt was a key-component to the 213.92 mph record run.
