In the ranks of VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod, it is common to see big power adders and even bigger engines pushing quarter-mile competitors to amazing elapsed times and top speeds. However, not all the racers are running mountain motors with big blowers. The Modular Motorsports Racing team campaigns two Mustangs powered by its MMR GenX 351ci Coyote engines, which are boosted by pairs of Garrett turbochargers. These billet Coyote engine are designed to survive 10,000 rpm and generate over 3,500 horsepower.
We know that Coyotes and turbos are the fastest of friends, but this season the MMR Mustangs received engine updates, including the company’s new GenX billet intake manifolds. The changes seemed to have helped, as driver Greg Seth-Hunter piloted his 2017 Mustang to a new Ford engine eighth-mile world record at this year’s NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem season opener in Bradenton, Florida, with a 3.81 at 204.17 pass. That blast eclipsed the 3.83 standard the team set at the 2018 season opener.
