Monster Flow, Part 2—Frankenstein’s CNC-ported 5.0/5.2 Coyote Heads

The four-valve configuration of the Coyote engine requires special attention during the design process. As with any cylinder head port configuration, it’s important to have consistent design features throughout the port, and with a four-valve cylinder head, it’s even more important as the ports must mirror one another to ensure consistent flow between the two — whether they are intake or exhaust ports.


Much like port throat diameters and cross-section must be optimized across the pair of ports for the Coyote, the combustion chamber also needs to be identical from side-to-side to guarantee optimal performance.

The proper cylinder head deck finish is crucial to head gasket seal, and every factory CNC-ported head sold by Frankenstein receives a .010-inch cut to ensure the surface is finished properly.


Here’s a solid back-to-back on a set of unported 5.2 heads compared to a set of Frankenstein’s ported castings atop a Whipple-supercharged GT350. The results speak for themselves.
