After qualifying had concluded, it was determined that Bill Skillman is the 2019 Holley EFI Factory Super Cars champion. Skillman racked up wins at Bradenton and Joliet, and collected a runner up finish in Memphis to amass a substantial lead going into the final event of the year and secured his place at the top with his qualifying performance.
Leonard Long of G-Force Racing Transmissions will be crowned the 2019 NMCA FST Carburetors NA 10.5 champion at this years awards ceremony held during the PRI Show in December. Long visited the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle three times this season and took home a runner up finish at the last race in Norwalk, Ohio as well.
Don Walsh Jr. and his team put on a dominating performance this season, winning four of the last five events and collecting a runner up finish as well. He sealed up the VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod championship after qualifying for the NMCA World Finals had concluded. In addition to marking Walsh’s championship effort, this qualifying field was also the quickest field in NMCA Xtreme Pro Mod history with the 16-car class being separated by less than a tenth of a second, and the top ten cars running 3.79 or better. The top five qualifiers also represented three different power adders as well.
As his Holley EFI Factory Super Cars Cobra Jet is currently down for the count, Jason Dietsch dusted off one of his Fox-Body Mustangs, a 1993 Cobra that has received a stroked small-block and a turbocharger to make it go fast. An automatic transmission keeps it consistent, which is good as Dietsch is racing in MagnaFuel Open Comp this weekend.
VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod driver Tom Stringer left his Corvette at home and wheeled out his “old” ’68 Camaro that he has used for many years in Top Sportsman and Quick 8 races. It’s a solid 4.70 machine and he’s entered the car in the ARP Nitrous Pro Street category this weekend to flex it’s old-tech 632. Stringer said he’s looking at some upgrades for the engine, and he just might run the 2020 schedule.
LME Street King competitor Steven Griswold had an unfortunate on-track incident this morning. As he crossed the finish line and backed off the throttle, the car made a severe move and contacted the wall twice. Griswold, while banged up and becoming more sore by the minute, vowed to fix the C6 Corvette for next season.
Jim Widener claimed the top spot in VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod at one point during the weekend. In Q3, he and his teammate and engine builder Tony Bischoff had dialed in a 3.70-3.71 ET, but the transmission gave up. They called up Rodney Massengale of RPM Transmission and met him at his shop. According to Massengale, the transmission was pulled down to the bare case and built back up before 1am, and the crew slapped it back in the nitrous-assisted machine by 3am. During the first round, Widener drew Jim Detrick and the 3.70 he had expected before was delivered at the time slip booth, along with the round win.
