Video Inside—MAHLE Motorsport Pistons

MAHLE Motorsport has brought vast design technology and manufacturing capabilities to its Elite Sportsman Drag Racing Series PowerPak+ Piston line and has made the an off-the-shelf item. Engine builders and do-it-yourself enthusiasts can now get pistons as quickly as possible and not compromise performance as MAHLE has turned popular options on custom orders into standard features.

Race Pages Digital caught up with Eric Grilliot, brand manager at MAHLE Motorsport, during the recently-completed 11th annual NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals at Atlanta Dragway and MAHLE Motorsport was the presenting sponsor of the event. The company setup a display to showcase its piston products and representatives were available to discuss about pistons. MAHLE Motorsport has been selected by all three Domestic OE manufacturers for their drag racing programs—Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, Chevrolet COPO Camaro, and the Dodge Challenger SRT Drag Pak. Those pistons are available to the market for those building similar combinations or someone looking for durability and performance that the OEM engineers required from MAHLE Motorsport.

The new Elite Sporstman Drag Series PowerPak+ pistons are available for big-block Chevy and they are expanding in the LS and Modular Ford markets, eliminating wait-times for racing-capable pistons.

The Elite Sportsman Drag Series come standard with features are normally associated with custom pistons. The engineers include light-weight, externally strutted, true slipper skirt 2618 alloy forgings, dual coatings, lateral gas ports, and advanced pin bore, profile, and ovality geometries. Grooved for a .043″, .043″, 3.0mm ring set (available to purchase separately), these kits come complete with pistons, wrist pins, and circlips.

Moving to the PowerPak pistons, there are an abundant of features that are also standard like ring choice of low drag 1.0mm, 1.0mm, 2.0mm set, a 1.5mm, 1.5mm, 3.0mm set, or a 1/16″, 1/16”, 3/16” set. The forged pistons are available in 4032 aluminum alloy or 2618 alloy.
