Video Inside—Nitro Burnout Chaos at Mo-Kan Dragway

This past weekend Mo-Kan Dragway, located on the western boarder of Missouri in Asbury, hosted the Funny Car Chaos racing series for the second year. Ron Ooms grabbed national attention when he ran into problems during the burnout in his nitro-burning, Streakers Ride 1969 Camaro by getting sideways and broadsided the Christmas tree! Urban Hillbilly Videos was on-hand to catch the action with a perfectly framed video of the entire incident. Ooms is recovering from a leg-injury sustained during the accident and is expected to make a full recovery.

The seven-race Best of Texas BBQ Sauce Funny Car Chaos, presented by Red Line Shirt Club, series is a unique competition that began last month at North Star Dragway (Denton, TX) and the group slowly weaves its way up through the Midwest and going as far north as US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, MI. The series offers a fairly wide-open set of rules that allows the use of nitro-methane for fuel and supercharged engines. The unique twist is that any Funny Car body is allowed from the popular nostalgia style flopper bodies, like the one 1969 Camaro replica that Oom has on his chassis in the video, to sleek modern carbon fiber bodies that are seen on the NHRA national tour. The fastest cars run in the mid-3s at over 200 mph and there is an A- and B-field set of eliminations, splitting the field in two based on qualifying. The first event of 2019 brought 20 nitro-burning rides to the qualifying list, but only the top 16 got to compete in the two 8-car elimination ladders.
