Today the Holley NMRA Ford Nationals and the Redline Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals series rolls into US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan. As the season progresses, the stakes get higher in the championship points chases across the national heads-up and index classes. After filling the pits with race cars, haulers, and gear, racers will head to the drag strip to lay down some test passes to dial in their combinations in anticipation of the start of qualifying tomorrow.

VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod racer Scott Krueger made it out to his first NMCA race of the season here at US 131 Motorsports Park. He typically runs events around the Michigan area and this one fits the bill. He recently added a Fueltech engine management system and a Liberty four-speed transmission to his 1958 Corvette. So far the combination is working well, and he is looking to run in the upper 3.60s this weekend.
Seeking an edge in the highly competitive Dart NA 10.5 category, Joe Clemente recently bestowed his Fox Mustang racer with a fresh powerplant constructed by Gaby Labiosa at EIC Motorsports. It features the same displacement as the outgoing engine, but everything else is new, including the heads, camshaft, and carburetor. The carbs are from Dale Cubic at CFM Performance Carburetors and are bestowed with some proprietary tech that has already shown promise in testing. Speaking of testing, Clemente gave the wall a little love tap yesterday, but he avoided major damage and is feeling good about the car’s potential this weekend.
Jeff Bourcier headed to the NMRA race in Norwalk a couple of weeks back on a mission to pick up some new tires for his 1963 Tempest that competes in the Quick Fuel Technology Nostalgia Super Stock Class. However, while he was there he started looking over the rigs and trailers available at Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales. He ended up driving away with more than tires as he scored a beautiful 45-foot toter with a 32-foot stacker trailer. Now he has a top-flight home base at the track and his car is running well. Bourcier says he just needs to work on remaining calm and cutting good lights to go rounds this weekend.
In advance of this weekend’s race, ARP Nitrous Pro Street racer Tim Barton moved back from radials to bias-ply tires to hook the big-block Chevy power that propels his 1973 Chevy Nova. He made some successful test hits yesterday at US 131 Motorsports Park, so he feels like the car is headed in the right direction, but he is still dialing in the Holley EFI tune-up to optimize its on-track performance.
In the hyper-competitive world of Holley EFI Factory Super Cars, Lindsay Wheelock runs a modest race team that is gunning to compete with the big dogs in the class. Her husband and crew chief Dustin says they have great support from the likes of Patrick Barnhill, Jeff Lee, Geoff Turk, and others, but it is still a family team run by the couple and their children. After missing chasing the proper torque converter setup in her Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak, they feel like the current unit might just help reach their goal of running low 7.80s to keep pace with the pack.
